Why Laureles

Laureles is the neighborhood locals recommend when you ask where they would live. It is flat and walkable, built around two circular parks and the Avenida Nutibara, with cafés, bakeries, gyms, coworking spaces and neighborhood restaurants instead of tourist crowds. The Atanasio Girardot stadium and the Estadio metro station are on its edge, and the Consolata church is its landmark.

Getting there from the airport

Laureles is on the west side of the river, so the ride from José María Córdova airport takes 55 to 75 minutes depending on traffic. A private transfer with Medellín Hostess costs from $67 USD per vehicle; your driver waits at arrivals with your name.

Where to stay

Boutique hotels and monthly apartments along Circular 74 and 73, Avenida Nutibara and around the Primer Parque. Prices are usually 20 to 30 percent lower than El Poblado for the same standard.

What to do

Coffee on the Circulares, dinner on Calle 33 or Avenida Jardín, a Nacional or DIM match at the stadium, salsa nights in the 70, and the metro two stops away from the city center. Comuna 13 is a 20-minute drive.

Is Laureles safe?

Yes, and calmer than El Poblado at night. Residential streets empty after 10 pm, so use a car for late returns. A host is useful for the first days if you do not speak Spanish, since fewer people speak English here than in El Poblado.
