Medellín is a long valley, and where you sleep decides how your trip feels. The airport is 35 to 45 km away from all of it, so the choice is not about the transfer, it is about what you want outside your door. Most first-time visitors from the US pick El Poblado for its hotels, restaurants and nightlife within walking distance. Travelers who stay longer, work remotely or want a quieter street tend to prefer Laureles or Envigado. Families and returning visitors increasingly choose Sabaneta for the price and the small-town feel.

The private transfer costs the same to any of them, from $67 per vehicle, because the price is per vehicle and not per kilometre inside the metro area.

Which Medellín area is best for a first visit?
El Poblado. Hotels, restaurants, coworking and nightlife are within walking distance and it has the strongest security presence in the city. Provenza is the liveliest part of it.
Is Laureles cheaper than El Poblado?
Usually 20 to 30 percent cheaper for comparable apartments and hotels, with more local restaurants and fewer tourists. It is flatter and easier to walk, but the airport drive is about 10 minutes longer.
Does the airport transfer cost more to Laureles or Envigado than to El Poblado?
No. The private transfer is a fixed price per vehicle, from $67, to any address in Medellín, Envigado, Sabaneta, Itagüí, Bello or La Estrella.
Can I stay in Comuna 13?
We do not recommend it for visitors. Visit it for a few hours with a host or a guided tour, then sleep in El Poblado, Laureles or Envigado.
